Lot Essay

Accompanied by a Ulysse Nardin Certificate card dated July 28, 2005.

Ulysse Nardin's introduced the Freak in 2001. Under the direction of Ludwig Oechslin this timepiece ignores traditional convention by the apparent lack of hands and winding crown. However, the movement itself becomes the agent of time. The Ulysse Nardin Dual Ulysse Escapement revolves once an hour through the drive wheel and teeth at the circumference of the dial. This escapement system has two wheels and due to the unique lay out allows for a reduction in lift angle or arc between the balance's first contact and last contact with the escapement. A lower arc allows for less disturbance of the balance and the watch has a balance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch is further enhanced by the unique winding system through ball-bearings in a mechanism in the case back. The watch is wound by turning the rim.
