Lot Essay

Born in Bordeaux, Henri Hamm was no only well known for his work in the glass industry, but also for his execution of small cabinet pieces in rich materials such as ivory, bone, mother-of-pearl and silver. At 26, Hamm founded the Societé d'Art Moderne de Bordeaux and by 1925 he became a professor at L'Ecole des Arts Appliqués. In addition, Hamm collaborated with with many designers, most notably fashion designer Jacques Doucet. Many of Hamm's works, especially his smaller works similar to this box, can be found in Musée d'Art Moderne and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris.
