The G. Fox & Co. flagship department store in downtown Hartford, Connecticut, stood as one of the country's leading retail establishments during the second quarter of the 20th century. Beatrice Fox Auerbach, granddaughter of the founder of the company, propelled G. Fox & Co. to the forefront of retailing through improvements in service, employee relations and marketing. In the 1930s, Auerbach updated the original 1917 building, designed by Cass Gilbert, with Art Deco interiors inspired by current trends in Paris and New York. Newly streamlined spaces were complemented by metal furniture and display cases. This table was designed as a display table in the Millinery Salon on the fifth floor.
