Lot Essay

For a very similar carving, see a smaller jade finial dating from the Jin dynasty illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Jadeware (II), Hong Kong 1995, pp. 114-115. Compare also the dragon of the present example with another almost identical, carved on a jade ornament dating from the Yuan dynasty and illustrated in Op. Cit., pp. 168-169, pl. 140.
