Lot Essay

Edward Caldwell Spruce was a sculptor and teacher, who studied in Paris and exhibited at the Paris Salon. From his studio in Cowper Street, he made busts of many local personalities and designed for the Leeds Fireclay Company. He was a founding member of The Leeds Savage Club, a group for artist and writers where Mark Senior was also a member.
