The technique of using colored glazes, similar to the vertical panels found on this pot, was first discovered by Josiah Wedgwood in 1759 (the last year of his partnership with Thomas Whieldon).

Of melon form with cabbage-molded spout and flower-head finial, the handle terminal issuing a sprigged leaf and blossom, the body naturalistically thrown and rouletted with horizontal lines and dots, striped overall with mottled-yellow and green colored glazes
