Lot Essay

Jennet Avery, baptized in Easthampton, Massachusetts, 28 June 1812 worked this needlework sampler in 1821. The poem quoted in the samples comes from Alexander Pope (1688-1744) titled An Essay on Criticism written in 1709. She married Spencer Janes on 20 October 1831 (Additional information provided by Carol and Stephen Huber).
