Lot Essay

The lighthouse that stands at the end of the characteristic rock formation was built in 1859. This area off the coast of the Isle of Wight takes its name after a needle-like form, also called Lot's Wife, which used to stand amongst the rocks. It collapsed in a storm in the 18th century but the name of the area still remains.
