Lot Essay

A virtually identical bronze by Luigi Secchi (d.1921) with similar dimensions, dated 1883, is in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Milan, room XXV, GAM 487. Born in Cremona in 1853, Secchi specialised in genre figures, medallions and bas-reliefs. 'In Riposo' is one of his most celebrated models; other examples are in the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Rome and the Genoa Museum.
