Tawara Yusaku is recognized as a connoisseur, collector and proprietor of a famous folk-art shop in Tokyo. Late in life, in the 1990s, he returned to painting and had a one-man show in London shortly before his death. In November 2011, the Indianapolis Museum of Art featured his work in the major exhibition "Universe Is Flux: The Art of Tawara Yusaku." The artist was influenced by Buddhist concepts of cosmology and space. Close examination reveals each large brushstroke is composed of innumerable tiny strokes, dots and splashes representing the constantly changing energy of the universe.
