Meiji period (late 19th century), one signed Dai Nihon and one signed Kobayashi sei on inlaid gilt reserves
Each vase of tapering form with high shoulder on short foot, cast, carved, gilded and inlaid in silver, shakudo and copper, one with a hawk eyeing a snake on a pine tree, watched by a monkey, one with an owl and monkey on a ginko tree entwined with a wisteria vine, and birds, the backgrounds finished brown, signature plaques on base
