A CARVED YELLOWISH-GREEN AND DARK RUSSET JADE SNUFF BOTTLE
MASTER OF THE ROCKS SCHOOL, 1760-1880
The flattened ovoid bottle is cleverly carved utilizing a patch of russet skin on one side with Shoulao being offered a peach of longevity by the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. The reverse is lightly incised with the Daoist immortal Lan Caihe. The base is lightly incised with a four-character inscription in seal script reading Mo shi Shengqi (Shengqi of the Mo family).

Lot Essay

The name inscribed on the base of the bottle appears to be that of a former owner. The name does not appear to be recorded in any of the sources identifying Qing individuals of note.
