A WHITE JADE RECTANGULAR PENDANT PLAQUE
19TH CENTURY
The plaque is carved in low relief on one side with a meeting of two figures under a willow tree, one with a hoe suspending a basket of lingzhi slung over his shoulder, and on the reverse is an inscription, xianxian hu si chuyue zhi chu tianyai, luoluo hu you zhongxing zhi lie hehan, followed by a seal, Zigang. The semi-translucent stone is of even color.

Lot Essay

The inscription is an excerpt from the Tang dynasty calligrapher Sun Guoting's Shu Pu (Treatise on Calligraphy), and may be translated, 'Delicate as a crescent moon rising from the horizon; beautifully spaced as stars of the milky way.'
