From early on in his career Willy Sluiter has often been compared to a reporter. Portraying 'people in action', be it at work, in leisure, or during sports, runs as a thread through his versatile oeuvre. With ease, he strikingly portrayed his, often somewhat caricatured, figures. From 1910 on, Sluiter started painting and drawing the skating, gliding, sliding, and skiing well-off 'snow-tourists' in Davos and St. Moritz. He was the first to portray wintersports in such a frivolous and mirthful manner.
