Lot Essay

Formed by Mr. Christian Humann from the 1950s-70s, The Pan-Asian Collection was one of the largest and finest assemblages of the South and Southeast Asian art in the world. Mr. Humann, who was on the Board of Trustees of Los Angeles County Museum of Art from 1975-81, supported research in the field by allowing his works to be lent and studied for extended periods of time. Upon his passing, the collection was acquired by Robert Ellsworth in New York, and since then a few works have gradually become available for acquisition. This is one of the few and rare works with the elite predigree of the Pan-Asian Collection.
