An elderly blue-skinned sage seated on a mountaintop with various figures climbing to offer him food, all the women with yellow stains on their clothes, a man carrying a child and the cowherder who is leading them wiping his eyes at the lower left, with a collection sticker on verso

Lot Essay

The stains on the women's clothing may be sandalwood paste, indicating they had to go through some sort of initiation or cleansing ritual in order to make their journey up the mountain.
