A black ground thangka of Mahakala Panjarnata
Tibet, circa 1600
Standing on a prostrate figure over a lotus base holding a curved knife and skull cup in his hands with the jeweled staff resting across his forearms, dressed in a tiger skin dhoti and adorned with various necklaces and streaming ribbons, the face ferocious with open mouth and flaming brows surmounted by a jeweled tiara, flanked by flame-backed deities with Vajradhara and a lineage of teachers above and wrathful deities and a donor figure below
