Engraved title and portrait of Prince Balthasar Carlos by Juan de Noort, double fillet borders, woodcut initials. (Two preliminary leaves with closed tears, a few other closed tears affecting text, heavy washing to final leaf of text, without final blank.) Maroon morocco by Brugalla, 1946, gilt supralibros, gilt turn-ins and edges. Provenance: bought from Librería Puvill, 1946, then rebound. FIRST AND ONLY EDITION of this manual of princely education dedicated to the ill-fated Balthasar Carlos, son of Felipe IV and Isabel de Borbón. (A3-4 cropped at outer margin, C1 torn and repaired with loss to 4 lines of text, C12 repaired with slight loss of letters on verso, several marginal repairs to D1, E1 with closed tear through 6 lines slightly afffecting letters, I1-2 with outer margin restored, other small repairs.) Red morocco gilt by Brugalla, 1945. Provenance: bought from José Porter, 1941. RARE EARLY EDITION of this popular manual of courtly conduct.
