Valk after B. Garzia from the 1760 edition. (Portrait washed, text close cut leaving some headlines shaved, some page numerals cropped or torn through, repaired marginal tears, residual soiling.) Dark blue morocco gilt by Brugalla, 1949. Provenance: purchased from Fontana, 1947.

Calderón wrote some eighty 'autos sacramentales' in total, based on a fixed set of theological and philosophical constructs, but of ever varying dramatic form.
