Lievendal on title. Double column, xylographic coin illustrations and initials. (R2 with closed tear, Aa1 repaired at lower corner, paper fault slightly affecting Cc2r.) Red morocco by Brugalla, 1946, gilt supralibros, gilt spine lettering, turn-ins and edges. Provenance: early annotation on Oo3 (almost washed away) -- occasional annotations in a later hand (cropped by the binder) -- F. Soto (ownership stamp on title) -- purchased from José Sala Nadal, 1942.
FIRST EDITION of Caro's most ambitious historical work. The first two books are devoted to the antiquities of Seville, and the last to the city's 'Convento Iuridico' or 'Chancelleria antigua'.
