MAGNIFICENT EDITION of Mariana's Historia general which, after its first appearance in Latin (Toledo, 1592) and then in Castilian (Toledo, 1601), made available a compendium of Spanish legend and history up to the death of Ferdinand. It continued to be a respected source for generations to come, although a detailed list of its errors was published as early as 1611 by Pedro Mantuano. In spite of the difference in the bindings, it would seem that the present set has been united for over a century. Palau 151684.
