CERVANTES SAAVEDRA, Miguel de (1547-1616). El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha. Paris: Julio Didot, 1827. 16° (126 x 85mm). Engraved frontispiece of Cervantes and 8 plates by E. Stalker, one double-page engraved map at end, half-title. (Occasional light spotting, map more heavily spotted.) Contemporary red morocco with filleted borders enclosing armorial, gilt spine compartments with scroll ornament, gilt turn-ins and edges. Provenance: purchased from Bone, 1925.
FINE COPY OF THIS POCKET EDITION. One of 1000 copies printed and circulated under the direction of Joaquín Maria de Ferrer, whose initials appear on the title page. Ferrer was a great admirer of Cervantes and paid 30,000 francs in order to produce this edition in miniature which includes his dedication to Cervantes after the title page.
