Lot Essay

Paula Swinnen (b. 1964) is a contemporary Flemish sculptor working in bronze. She had a passion for the arts from an early age and studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Brussels, where she found that her true aspiration was to 'draw in bronze'. She specializes in using the lost-wax technique to create her works as this presents a delicacy and depth of texture to her work. All her work is inspired by the natural world as with the present lots; her recent London exhibition based on vie maritime was very well received. Her bronze furniture is a strong component of her oeuvre; inspired by the flora and fauna around her, they are her interpretations of the true forms and languages of Nature transformed into everlasting sculptures.
