A RARE QIANGJIN AND TIANQI LACQUERED HAND MIRROR
18TH CENTURY
The oval mirror is set within a conforming frame embellished with raised ruyi-shaped motifs around the borders, and the slender tapering handle ends in a jade-inlaid lingzhi-form terminal. The frame and handle are finely incised and decorated in polychrome lacquer and gilding on a red lacquer ground with prunus and chrysanthemum blossoms borne on scrolling stems. The back of the mirror is similarly decorated with a bat in flight above a leafy lotus spray.
