Lot Essay

In his inscription, Huang Junbi dedicated this painting to his schoolmate from Tsinghua University, the artist Wang Shaoling (1909-1989), who emigrated to New York in 1943 to study and then teach at Columbia University. The inscription also notes that this painting was made in New York in 1958, a period of years when Huang traveled to and exhibited often in the United States.
