A PALE GREENISH-WHITE JADE FACETED RETICULATED BRUSH POT
18TH CENTURY
The brush pot is of rounded rectangular form and is well carved in relief and pierced with a continuous scene set in a mountain setting: with two deer on one side, a fruit-laden peach tree and a pine tree on the adjoining side, a bearded immortal carrying a covered jar preceded by an attendant carrying a large peach on the third side as they traverse a rock bridge on their way to a pavilion on the fourth side. The base is carved as a wide, slightly concave foot of conforming outline surrounding a countersunk center. There are some opaque ivory striations in the semi-translucent stone that have been incorporated into the carving.
5½ in. (14 cm.) high
