AN UNUSUAL UNDERGLAZE-BLUE-DECORATED GREEN-GLAZED 'DRAGON' BOWL
KANGXI PERIOD (1662-1722)
The bowl is potted with deep, rounded sides and painted in underglaze blue on the exterior with a wide band of a pair of four-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst flames above a key-fret band encircling the foot and below a narrow band of stylized lotus blossoms and foliate scroll at the rim. The interior is similarly painted with three further four-clawed dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst flames. The design is reserved on a dark blue-green ground. The base is inscribed in underglaze blue with an apocryphal Chenghua mark within a double circle.
