Each thinly potted vase has a tapering body and angled shoulder, and is finely painted on the exterior after the famous Yongzheng-period painting, The Pine, Hawk and Glossy Ganoderma, by Giuseppe Castiglione, with a hawk perched on a jagged outcrop beneath a gnarled pine tree on the banks of a rushing river under a setting sun, which is positioned below an inscription describing the scene and four seals in puce enamel, all set between bands of pendent motifs at the waisted neck and foot. The base is inscribed with an apocryphal Qianlong mark.
