A RARE PAIR OF DOUCAI SQUARE JARDINIERES
18TH/19TH CENTURY
Raised on bracket supports, each side is painted with a leafy, scrolling flower stem bearing a yellow blossom in the center and three mauve blossoms shown in profile as well as yellow, mauve and iron-red buds. A band of fruiting gourd vine interspersed with iron-red bats is on the flat rim, and all is within blue line borders. The interior has vertical struts and is covered with a wash of clear glaze, and a drainage hole is in the center of the base.
