Gothic types (colophon in Roman type), printed marginal notes, printed paragraph marks, 3 large woodcuts (including one repeat) and 23 small woodcut illustrations, by Urs Graf, initial spaces with guide letters, blue and red Lombard initials some with reverse decoration, capital strokes and paragraph marks in red. (Minor marginal worming.) Contemporary blind-stamped dark calf, early manuscript pastedowns (worn, clasps lacking); cloth folding case. Provenance: Contemporary manuscript notations on title; coroneted collector's stamp on title; Eugene Chaper (bookplate); acquired from E.P. Goldschmidt, 1962.

FIRST EDITION with fine illustrations by Urs Graf (ca. 1485-1528). The first full-page woodcut illustrations is made up of 9 small cuts on one page illustrating the foundation of the Order "Origo Ordinis Oartusiensis." A genealogical tree (A1v) showing the descent of the chief figures of the order from St. Bruno, is surrounded by 17 small woodcuts of Popes. Printed at the expense of the Carthusian monastery of St. John the Baptist in Freiburg im Breisgau, the six parts are: I. Repertorium statuorum Ordinis Cartusiensis per ordinem alphabeti, II. Statuta Ordinis Cartusiensis a domino Guigone edita, III. Statuta antiqua Ordinis Cartusiensis in tribus partibus comprehen- sa, IV. Statuta nova Ordinis Cartusiensis, V. Tertia compilatio statuorum Or- dinis Cartusiensis, and VI.
