RARE EDITION of the famous prognostications by Johannes Lichtenberger, illustrated with a series of 45 fine woodcuts. Often referred to as court-astrologer to Emperor Frederick III, the Alsatian hermit Lichtenberger wrote this work in 1484 and it gained widespread popularity. Besides the standard prophecies, Lichtenberger provides precise predictions and exhortations addressed to the pope, the emperor, as well as various princes and governments.
The attractive woodcuts follow closely the instructions given by Lichtenberger, as it was his intention that this illustrations of his prophecies should be striking enough to impress the reader.
