Text of a4 recto within ornamental woodcut border, full-page woodcut illustration on b1 of an oak tree with an image of Romulus beneath surrounded by emblems of empire, 75 woodcut portraits, with the final blank. 19th-century gilt-panelled red morocco gilt, edges gilt (spine head chipped). Provenance: Charles Fairfax Murray (1849-1919), connoisseur, painter, art advisor and dealer (bookplate); Marshall Field (bookplate); acquired from John Fleming, 1962.

The work, intended for pilgrims and visitors to the Holy City, describes the history of the origins of Rome and its first Kings. The woodcuts, including border and full-page illustration, are from the same blocks as the 1494 incunable edition (Goff O-7). Brunet V:831; Sander 5021.
