The polished black slate top above pietra dura inlaid doors enclosing a bois satiné veneered interior with two adjustable shelves, the angles mounted with cherubs, on a shaped plinth base centred by a Bacchic mask, the sides mounted with winged female masks and shells, stamped 177, 6II and PRETOT to rear edge of the top
40½ in. (103 cm.) high; 40¾ in. (103.5 cm.) wide; 17¾ in. (45 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Hippolyte-Edme Pretot (d.1855) was a successful Paris-based cabinet-maker who took part in the Paris Exposition of 1849 and won a medal for his inlaid work at the London Exhibition of 1851.
