DIEPPE, LATE 18TH CENTURY
Modelled as the Europeans versus the Moors, the bishops as fous, the knights as cavalry men, the rooks as turrets, the white pawns wearing wigs and frock coats, the red pawns as blackamoors
The king -- 2 7/8 in. (7.4 cm.) high; the pawn -- 2¼ in. (5.6 cm.) high
