Lot Essay

Clement Massier (1844-1917)

Known as a master of lustre, Massier was a modest and simple man which contrasts with the highly inventive and ornamental wares of his oeuvre. The present lot combines a sinuosity of line from the decorative repertory of Art Nouveau with Far Eastern motifs with his signature 'reflective' lustrous surfaces.
