The present stand with its interpretation of the brass mounts, combined with the use of oak is characteristic of the Belgian architect and furniture maker Gustav Serrurier Bovy (1858-1910). His style often fused the sinuosity of line associated with the French Art Nouveau with the more rectilinear style of the Northern European Seccessionist movement.
