CIRCA 1550-70, PROBABLY FONTANA WORKSHOP
Painted with Neptune surprising and embracing a nymph, perhaps Caenis, on a sea-shore, Neptune wearing a green turban and a manganese drape, his trident at his feet, the nymph in a billowing ochre dress, Cupid standing to the right holding a trident before hippocampi and distant rocks, ships, rockwork and buildings on an island, within a blue line and ochre band rim, small rim chip at 8 o'clock, minor chipping to footrim and glaze at rim
