Of oblong purse form, engraved with foliage, with spring-loaded hinge, engraved on each end with an inscription, marked inside each section
5 in. (12.7 cm.) wide
5 oz. 16 dwt. (181 gr.)
The inscription reads 'J. A. Bloxam, Esq're From Lord & Lady Gilbert Kennedy in Grateful Memory of Skill and Kindness August 1885'

Lot Essay

Lord Gilbert Kennedy (1822-1901) was the son of Archibald, Earl of Cassillis (1794-1832) and grandson of Archibald, 1st Marquess of Ailsor. He married Margaret (d. 1903), daughter of Sir David Baird, 2nd Bt., in 1851. He was raised to the rank of younger son of a marquess in 1846.
