Apparently notes made while Crick was working on the polypeptide chains in hemoglobin and in protein fibers, and in his. The circles with degrees in them represent the phases of differing reflections. The scraps of equations look like parts of a Patterson analysis. These data may be early DNA-related studies from the early 1950s, or might relate to his protein research on polypeptide chain structure. Cricks notes involve alpha-helices, though straight and not wrapped as in coiled-coils. These notes may be an intermediate analysis of the coiled-coil idea. A 1952 paper by Crick describes the possibility of packing of parallel helical rods in hemoglobinthe distance distribution between residues on different helices that is essentially a Patterson
function. Several of the notes include some Fourier transforms. CRICK MANUSCRIPT MATERIAL FROM THIS PERIOD IS EXTREMELY RARE ON THE MARKET.
