Lot Essay

A carpet of very similar design was illustrated in the Barbican Art Gallery, exhibition catalogue, Jon Thompson, Carpet Magic, London, 1983, p.7 and was almost certainly made in the same workshop as the current example. Another closely related carpet woven from the same cartoon was offered in these Rooms, 11 November 1993, lot 138.
