Diana resting after the hunt

This composition relates to the picture in the Alte Pinakothek by Jan Brueghel the Elder and Hendrik van Balen. The theme of Diana and her nymphs was treated on several different occasions by Brueghel: most notably he completed a commission in collaboration with Rubens for a series of pictures for Archduke Albert of Austria and the Archduchess Isabella.
