Lot Essay

An attribution to the Netherlandish artist Jan Stephan von Calcar (1499-1546/50) has been proposed for the present lot, and it has also been suggested that the sitter is Don Pedro Alvarez de Toledo y Zúñiga, Marquéz de Villafranca del Bierzo (1484-1553), Viceroy of Naples under Charles I of Spain.
