Lexcellent's magasin was located at 46, rue de Charenton in Paris and later at 8, rue Bréguet. He showed in the Expositions Universelles of 1855, 1867 and 1889, winning an honorable mention in the first, a bronze medal in the second and a silver medal in the third. As the present piece would suggest, he was known for his reproductions and interpretations of 18th century models by André-Charles Boulle, Jean-Henri Riesener and Adam Weisweiler.
