The present group is based on a biscuit group created by Louis-Simon Boizot in 1776 for the Manufacture de Sèvres. The subject is inspired by Charles-Simon Favart's comédie of the same title, which Favart debuted at Fontainebleau on 25 October 1769. Boizot's original model is illustrated Cf. Emile Bourgeois, Le Biscuit de Sères au XVIIIe Sièle, Paris, 1909, Vol. II.
