Lot Essay

Illustrated in the 1886 catalogue of the Parisian bronzier Ferdinand Barbedienne, the caryatid nymphs are two-fifth reductions of Germain Pilon's celebrated 'Graces' executed for the monument of Henri II, which has been displayed at the Louvre since 1816.
