PREMIÈRE ÉDITION EN ANGLAIS (l'originale en latin date de 1676), augmentée de trois planches par rapport à l'originale qui n'en comptait que 77. Zimmer (p. 677) note pour l'édition latine: "The cornerstone of modern systematic ornithology, being the first book on the classification of birds without respect to geographical boundaries. The mansucript was left in an imperfect state by Willughby at his death and was arranged and completed by Ray".
