IRAN AND KHORASSAN, 10TH/12TH CENTURY
The 12th century Khorassan mortar on plain base and with straight sides, the fine decoration with raised and repeated conical forms and with engraved floral motifs in medallions and palmettes between two registers of pseudo-calligraphy on foliated ground; the other mortar probably earlier, circa 10th century, with a slightly rounded base, straight sides and flat rim, the decoration with recurring lobed roundels, each with associated pestles
