A KHORASSAN COPPER-INLAID BRONZE BOTTLE
NORTH-EASTERN IRAN, 12TH CENTURY
On plain base, with ribbed body and flat shoulders, the engraved decoration with vertical calligraphic cartouches in kufic script on floral ground, each with central palmettes within roundels, interspersed with a band of foliated tendrils, the shoulder with a further band of kufic inscription, the flaring mouth with a recurring geometric pattern, the flat rim with further scrollworks, with later added pierced panel to the mouth for use as a sprinkler; together with a Safavid square copper element engraved with the name of the Prophet Muhammad and of 'Ali on floral ground, possibly 18th century
