Lot Essay

This beaker is similar in its decoration and scale to a bowl in the Islamic Art Museum, Berlin (1). In his discussion of the piece, Stefano Carboni indicates that these objects belong to a large group of relief-cut vessels that include a bowl with falcons and ibexes in the Corning Museum of Glass (59.1.109). The Berlin bowl and the Corning Museum bowl are said to have been found in north-eastern Iran.
