SAFAVID SHIRAZ, IRAN, 16TH CENTURY
From a Shahnama manuscript, opaque pigments heightened with gold on paper, Bahram Gur kills the first lion with his ox-headed mace whilst the second lion stands behind him, the crown and throne of Iran in the centre, the scene watched by a crowd of people gesturing their amazement at Bahram Gur's power, with two lines of text in black nasta'liq script arranged in four columns above and below, the reverse with text, trimmed, minor losses to the corners, in good condition
